Fort Eisenhower, formally known as Fort Gordon, is a suburb of Augusta, Georgia where there is a U.S. Army base. It was established in 1941 as part of the American effort to fight World War II. It is currently the home of the U. S. Army Signal Corps and the U. S. Army Cyber Corps. On the base, the army operates the Cyber Center of Excellence as part of Homeland Security. There are more than 12,000 soldiers and 4,600 civilians working on the base.

Fun Things To Do Near Fort Eisenhower

Augusta is known for its beautiful golf courses. There are two near Fort Eisenhower where it is fun to play a round of golf. One is the Augusta Municipal Golf Course that is near the Augusta Mall, which is located a few miles northeast of Fort Eisenhower, just off of Highway 78. The other is the Eisenhower Lakes Golf Course, which is just a mile south of the Army base, near Highway 1.

Families with kids will enjoy the Outdoor Pool and Spray Park at the Courtyard during the hot summer. There is a nice swimming pool to enjoy and a waterslide. Another fun thing for families is to go bowling at the Gordon Lanes Bowling Center. A pleasant night out is enjoying a performance and a meal at the Fort Eisenhower Dinner Theater.

Schools Around Fort Eisenhower

Military families, and civilians who work for the Army, usually send their kids to a school on the base. There are also 25 public schools within a five-mile radius of the military base. Each nearby community has its own public schools that are part of the August Public School District. There are 23 private schools in Augusta, Georgia. Many are highly-regarded high schools for college-preparatory students.

Best Neighborhoods Near Fort Eisenhower

The whole area surrounding the Fort Eisenhower military base is considered one large neighborhood. It is a rural part of the suburbs of Augusta where there are some modest homes with a median price of around $150,000.

These modestly-priced areas are mixed in with more pricey areas that have luxurious southern mansions with a median price of over $1 million. The most expensive homes are found in the vicinity of the Augusta National Golf Club, which is a private golf course known for holding the U.S. Open golf tournament.

Many families who live in this area are associated with the military presence. They are either part of the active-duty military or civilians who work on the base. Over 52% of the adults who live in this area either work for the government or are enlisted in the U.S. Army. Families who do not wish to live on the base will find plenty of rental homes to choose from in the other suburban towns nearby.

Grovetown

Martinez

Martinez is six miles away to the northeast. The median home price is $149,600 and the median rent is $1,004. Most of the homes are owned, with 73% owner-occupied. This neighborhood is well-established with many ranch-style homes on large lots that were constructed with brick and were built in the 1960s and 1970s. For the median price of around $150,000, it is possible to find a single-level home that has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and about 2,000 square feet of living space.

Evans

Evans is 8 miles away to the north. This is a very nice area. The median home price is higher at $233,100 and the median rent is higher also at $1,567. 82% of the homes are owner-occupied. In this area, you will find huge mansions. A brand-new home with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, with 2,500 square feet of space, sells for around $280,000. Old Town

Old Town is a little over 12 miles away to the east. The median home price is only $61,300 and the median rent is $762. Most of the homes are rental properties with only 21% owner-occupied. Bargain hunters will want to search Old Town for a small two-bedroom, two-bathroom starter home of 1,000 square feet that sells for around $115,000 or buy a manufactured home on a lot for about $60,000.

North Augusta

North Augusta is 14 miles away. The median home price is $155,500 and the median rent is $736. Most of the homes in this area are owned, with 64% owner-occupied. This area is very well-established. Some streets are lined with massive trees. For the median home price of around $155,000, it is possible to buy a three-bedroom, two-bathroom, brick home with around 1,500 square feet of living space. A fixer-upper home of the same size in this area can sell for around $120,000.

This part of Augusta, near Fort Eisenhower, can be quite nice for families. Be careful to select an area that has a lower crime rate because there are some bad areas mixed in with the good ones. Other areas to consider include Sand Hills, National Hills, Harlem, West Augusta, Summerville, and Lake Aumond.
