Anderson is a nice small town in South Carolina with about 27,000 people that is most famous for being near Lake Hartwell. The lake is west of the town and runs to the north side of town, where lakefront properties are very desirable. This town is a kid's paradise for families who enjoy the outdoors and want to go boating, fishing, and hiking. Families may spend many pleasant days having a picnic at the lake. Many people come from all over to enjoy their summers in a vacation home on the lake.

The median home price for all of Anderson is $122,900. The median rent is $649. The median household income is $32,000. Naturally, the priciest areas for homes are in the northern part of the city near the lake. The more modestly-priced homes are towards the western side of town.

Concord -- Ashley Downs

This neighborhood is in the northeastern part of Anderson. There are some good schools in this area that include Concord Elementary and T. L. Hanna High. Both schools are International Baccalaureate World Schools. There is also the Montessori School of Anderson in this neighborhood.

Home Styles

This area has many large homes built between the 1970s and 2000 with a few built more recently. There are also some large southern mansions and nice luxury homes built on hills with spectacular views.

This is the highest-priced area in Anderson. The median home price is $313,106. This nearly three times the median price of other neighborhoods in Anderson. The median rent is $2,805.

Things To Do

Lake Hartwell is a big attraction. It has plenty of excellent fishing and regular bass fishing tournaments. Swimming in the lake is allowed. There are hundreds of miles of lake shore to choose from, with public access points and boat launch ramps available. There are plenty of camping areas. Many nice restaurants are located on the lake. The City of Anderson Recreation Area is one of the major city parks. It located on the north shore of Lake Hartwell, which is easy to drive to by taking Highway 178 north that has a bridge crossing the lake. A major shopping center is the Anderson Mall, which is located towards the southeastern side of this neighborhood.

Northview -- Northlake

This area is in the northern part of Anderson that extends to the southeastern shore of Lake Hartwell. Many families like living here. Some have a vacation home on the lake to use during summer.

Home Styles

This area has a nice mix of luxury homes, southern mansions, and beautiful lakefront properties in the Northlake portion of the neighborhood. To the southern side of this neighborhood, in the Northview area, are the more modestly-priced homes and apartment complexes for those who wish to rent a place.

The median home price is $157,743. The median rent is $987, which a decent amount for a family-friendly area.

Things To Do

The homes on Lake Hartwell are located in the Northlake area. Boating enthusiasts will truly enjoy having a home on the lake. There is a popular sailing club. All the water sports are possible including water skiing, paddle boating, kayaking, wake boarding, wind sailing, jet-skiing, and more.

West Anderson -- Lakeside and Westview Heights

This neighborhood is in the southwestern part of Anderson where the housing prices more modest. On the western side of this neighborhood is the Anderson Regional Airport.

There are many schools in this area that include Oakwood Christian School, New Prospect Elementary, Robert Anderson Middle School, West Market School of Early Education, and the Lakeside Middle School of Inquiry And Innovation, which is a Stems School. Specialty schools include the Tri-County Technical College and the Southwood Academy of Arts.

Home Styles

This neighborhood has many ranch-style, single-story, brick homes with three or four bedrooms. There are also many smaller homes and apartment complexes for those on a tight budget. This area has plenty of modestly-priced homes on large lots with mature landscaping with big backyards and lots of trees.

Anderson is unique in that the nice neighborhoods are mixed in all over town so the best thing to do is to drive through the western area and choose the best streets when searching for a home in a nice neighborhood.

Things To Do

There are plenty of family activities and events held at Westside Community Center that has a jogging track and a playground for the kids to enjoy. Golfers will enjoy the Southwood Park, which has an excellent professional golf course.

The Westside is close to downtown Anderson where families can go for shopping and enjoy the water fountains, nightly light shows, and the performances given at the amphitheater in Carolina Wren Park There is a nice option of enjoying a picnic and a walk on the trails near Whitner Creek that runs through Linley Park.
