Fun Fact: In the 1920s land developers wanted to transform Hobe Sound into the perfect backdrop for filming Hollywood movies. Progress was underway and a Greek themed community was built, complete with streets named after the mythological Pantheon. Damage from the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane forced builders to abandon the project, but the street sign names can still be seen today.
What to do in Hobe Sound
Blowing Rocks Preserve is a beautiful beach that contains the largest limestone deposits in the East Coast United States. Scenic waves crash against the limestone at high tide and many shells are common at low tide. Hobe Sound is close to other parks too, including the Hobe Mountain sand dune, Hobe Sound Nature Center, and Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge. Kayaking, fishing, and wildlife viewing are abundant. Residents can visit the Treasure Coast Wildlife Hospital to learn about native species like the endangered Leatherback Sea Turtle.
Outside of town, Hobe Sound is accessible to other attractions that include Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, shopping, and nightlife in Orlando, St. Augustine, and Miami. Perfect for planning day trips!
