About Orange Park, FL

Orange Park is a town in Clay County. It is a suburb of Jacksonville. The 2020 census counted 9,089 people living in this town. That is up 8% from a population count of 8,412 a decade prior. The city is slowly growing.

The town was founded in 1877 as Orange Park by a real estate developer called the Florida Winter Home and Improvement Company. It was created from a part of the larger Laurel Grove. The idea behind the town and its name was to create small tracts of farmland with home-building lots so that the farmers in the area could grow citrus to support the local economy.

All these plans were destroyed by the Great Freeze in 1895, which killed all the citrus trees. The damage was so severe that the fruit-growing industry was devastated and never recovered.

In contemporary times, the city is best known for being a family-friendly suburban community and a nice retirement place.
