Since 1909, it has served as the County Seat of Palm Beach County. The current population is estimated at just under 110,000.

City Place - For clever New Urbanist design, the CityPlace neighborhood is a shining example, built around a European-style town center. In keeping with the new urbanist approach, there is an excellent mix of residential and essential town center amenities. There is plenty of retail shopping, live entertainment, and restaurants. In addition, the neighborhood is home to the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and Ballet Florida. A highly regarded high school, the Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts, is also a walk away, in the beautifully restored buildings of the 1908 Palm Beach High School.

Mango Promenade - A tiny neighborhood of around 130 buildings. It is notable since it became a West Palm Beach historic district in 1995 and was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The neighborhood lies just south of Palm Beach Atlantic University.

There are many good schooling options in West Palm Beach. The city is served by the more significant Palm Beach County School District, the 10th largest in the nation. West Palm Beach comprises a small part of the district so that you will have the resources of a robust and large district but the connection and engagement of a community school. In addition to traditional elementary through high schools, there is also a school for the arts, technical, and charter school options.

For education beyond high school, Keiser University has a residential campus in West Palm Beach with Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degree programs available.
