Collinsville is mostly in Madison County, with a small portion of the city extending into St. Clair County. County. The 2020 census counted 24,366 people living in this small town. Monks Mound has a base larger than the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. There are more than 70 other smaller mounds that can be seen today.
At its peak, Cahokia had between 20,000 and 30,000 residents, similar to the population Collinsville has today.
In contemporary times, the city is known for the Brooks Catsup Bottle Water Tower, the world's largest ketchup bottle. It is also known as “The Horseradish Capital of the World” due to the abundance of the horseradish plant growing in the area.
