I have had a Storage Unit for over 1 year, longer than I expected at Highwood Estates. Initially, Tina was the Manager and provided very good service. She called me one day after I had just left to inform me my Unit was not locked correctly. Recently I needed to rent an additional small Unit and Aaron waited for me to check out the Unit, prior to paying for it. I feel very comfortable every time I need to check out my Unit. I feel safe knowing that only registered Members have access to the Facility. I have recommended this location to many friends. KK

City Information

Moving and storage go hand in hand. Whether traveling across town or the country, moving is an exciting and fresh start. While Storage Rentals of America is here to help you with all your storage needs, we also want to help you get familiar with the area. That's why we put together this resource guide for Shelbyville.

About Shelbyville, IN.

Shelbyville is an essential county seat of Shelby County, a town that has gradually grown in importance. Its population at the 2010 census was just under 19,200, and it is part of the critical Shelbyville Commercial Historic District. In this area, there's a home created by John Hamilton. This critically important house still stands and provides historic interest for those considering moving to a new area.

Interestingly, Shelbyville has one of the longest-lasting still-in-use post offices. Started in 1823, this post office remains an interesting historical place to visit. Over the years, this city has become an important commercial area for many cities throughout the state. It has become an important economic area, as well. However, it has yet to possess the widespread industry common in many other more densely populated areas of Indiana.

What to Do in Shelbyville, IN.

Though by no means a gigantic city, Shelbyville has a few exciting options for entertainment. For example, it is home to the Indiana Grand Racing & Casino entertainment area, providing various options for fun. There are also a handful of theaters, including Studio 10 Cinema and at least one drive-in theater, the Skyline, which has been in operation for many years.

Shelbyville is also home to areas like Me and My Sisters Flea Market, the Hampton Inn Shelbyville, a handful of Quality Inn options, and restaurants like Linne's Pastry Shop & Deli, The Chicken Inn, Cracker Barrel, King Gyros, Grandma's Pancake House, and Cow Palace.

Working in Shelbyville, IN.

Over the years, Shelbyville has mostly been a center for governmental operation, as it is the county seat of its respective area. Therefore, many of its industries are focused more on service and not on manufacturing or other types of businesses that help expand many areas in Indiana. It is not the manufacturing and industrial center that Gary has become, for example.

However, a handful of restaurants, hotels, medical centers, a few different small colleges, and other types of industries help make it an excellent place to move. It is also not an expensive place to move to, which we'll discuss in the following section, especially for those interested in the service-based industries that the area mainly focuses on in the modern area.
