The city was founded in 1900 and named after the two Bettendorf brothers, who had an iron wagon business that they established in the town. In 1940, A.L.C.O.A. built the world's largest aluminum mill in Bettendorf, which still operates to this day.

What To Do in Bettendorf

The first contemporary riverboat casinos were launched in Bettendorf in 1991 by Bernard Goldstein, who is also the founder of the Isle of Capri Casinos. The Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center opened in 2009. It is owned by the city and operated by the Isle of Capri. There is a Farmer's Market in Downtown Bettendorf next to the Alter Building on State Street that runs from May 1 to October 31.

Music: Under normal times, there are many wonderful small clubs that have live bands performing. Live bands also perform at the Timber Lake Playhouse and the Spotlight Theater. For a nice evening in the summer, you will find outdoor performances of the symphony orchestra at Le Claire Park, located in nearby Davenport.

Nature: There are many beautiful parks to visit in Bettendorf, including Middle Park, McManus Park, Devils Glen Park, and Crow Creek Dog Park. Leach Park is on the river.

Museums: The kids will enjoy a visit to the Family Museum of Arts and Science. There is the Bereskin Gallery & Art Academy, which has exhibits and offers art lessons and workshops. The Putnam Museum is in nearby Davenport. It is a history and natural science museum. Another nice art gallery in Davenport is the Figge Art Museum.
