The town’s air filled with acrid black smoke from the burning tires. People had to stay inside to avoid breathing the air pollution.

On a lighter note, the Becker High School football team is a very successful program. The team won 19 conference championships and 14 section championships. They made 16 state tournament appearances and played in seven prep bowls. Dwight Lundeen has been the head coach since the program started in 1970.
