About Pierz, MN
Pierz is in Morrison County, Minnesota. The population is 1,418 (2020 U.S. Census). The city area is 1.35 square miles of land. Pierz Lake is a few miles from the city limits to the southwest.
Historically, the town got its name from Father Francis Xavier Pierz. Father Pierz was a Roman Catholic priest from Slovenia who came to the area in the 1850s. He was a missionary trying to convert the native people of the Ojibwe tribe to Catholicism. These people are the native tribe that the settlers called the Chippewa.
In contemporary times, this town is best known for its Oktoberfest. Suppose you like to drink German beer, eat bratwurst (a type of sausage), sauerkraut (fermented cabbage), and listen to Oom-pah music. In that case, you will surely enjoy the Oktoberfest held each year in August.
In Minnesota, it gets too cold in October for a festival, so they enjoy this traditional German festival in the summer instead. You can get your fill of draft beer with its delicious taste without having to fly to Munich, Germany, for the official Oktoberfest.
