About South Haven, MN

South Haven is in Wright County, Minnesota. The population is 174 (2020 U.S. Census). It is 27 miles south of St. Cloud on County Road 7. The lakes in the area include Scott, Union, and East and West Lake Sylvia.

Historically, the village area was platted in 1888 after the Soo Line railroad came to the area in 1887. In 1888, the location started as a train stop with a post office. It took fourteen years until 1902 when the village was incorporated.

This town is best known for having more people in 1910 and more buildings on Main Street than it has today. It was a thriving farm community that had more manual labor jobs available a century ago, which more modern farming methods have all but replaced.

Fishing is the most popular thing to do. It is a terrific place to build a homestead if you are an aspiring back-to-nature person. If you are a religious person, there are four churches in this tiny village, so you can visit a different one each week of each month to catch up on all the local gossip while getting to know the community members.
