About Hope Valley, RI

Hope Valley is a village with a population of around 1,870 people, according to the U.S. 2020 Census. It is at Nooseneck Hill Road and Rockville Road, just north of the I-95 Interstate. It is part of the town of Hopkinton, located in Washington County. Its main distinguishing feature is the Locustville Pond, which runs through the area.

Historically, Hezekiah Carpenter arrived in 1770 to settle here. He came from Europe. The first thing he did was build a dam on the Wood River, which he then used to power mills he built. Nothing progressed much for fifty years until the 1820s, when the area became a hub for the textile industry. Over 180 buildings are remaining in the Hope Valley Historic District.

The mills are long gone today, but the history remains. The unincorporated village is known for its laid-back rural lifestyle and good fishing on Locustville Pond.
