City Information
About Bacliff, TX
Bacliff is located in the northern part of Galveston County, a beautiful section of the Lone Star State. It is an unincorporated area with a population of 9,677 as of the 2020 U.S. Census.
When established in 1910, the post office was originally named "Clifton-by-the-Sea." However, the name changed in 1948 after the post office was built. The U.S. Postal Service found the original name too long, so residents chose "Bay Cliff." However, a clerical error misspelled it as "Bacliff," and the name has stuck ever since.
Despite several attempts to incorporate the area into a city, all referendums have failed, leaving Bacliff independent and embodying the spirit of the Wild West.
