About Midland, TX
Midland is a city that is the county seat of Midland County. The population is 132,524, according to the count done for the 2020 U.S. Census. In 1881, Midland was established. It was the midpoint between El Paso and Forth Worth when riding on the Texas and Pacific Railroad. This is cow country, and the main economy was raising cattle and shipping cattle on the rails. It was the largest cow shipping center in Texas by 1890. The city was incorporated in 1906. Around 2,200 people lived there in 1910.
Then, something spectacular occurred. In 1923, wildcat drillers struck oil. This led to the discovery of massive oil deposits in the Permian Basin area and the development of oil extraction activities to get the oil from the Spraberry Trend. Even today, one hundred years later, these proven oil reserves are the third-largest oil field in the United States.
